I have to write the soil section for Glen Canyon. I am not a geologist. I am not a soil biologist. But I can read and interpret maps. Google earth helps too. Some new vocab:
Lithic: of or relating to stone
Colluvium: soil blown and deposited at the bases of cliffs
Allivial: soil transported by fast moving water, and deposited where the water slows down
Eolian: transported by wind
Intefluves: high area between two drainages
Torriorthents: a kind of shallow, sandy soil derived from sandstone.
Pagina ( I know, and one of the common bacteria associated with soil crusts is called vaginitus): the state soil of utah. Another shallow, well drained, low organic matter soil.
So that's my formation of new neural connections for the day.
